Publication of new ISO 14001:2026
The revised version of ISO 14001:2026 was published on April 15, 2026.
The new standard does not involve any major changes. ProCert will send customers a comparison document in May 2026.
According to current information, a 3-year transition period is planned for certified organizations. This likely results in the following schedule:
- Transition period until 04/15/2029
- Expiration of validity of ISO 14001:2015 certificates on 04/15/2029
- No new issuance of ISO 14001:2015 certificates from 10/15/2027 onwards
Important: These milestones correspond to the current known status of an official communication from a European accreditation body and are based on the final transition document yet to be published by Global ACI, the successor organization of the IAF. A specific publication from the Swiss Accreditation Service SAS regarding the transition provisions for ISO 14001:2026 is not yet available; these are derived from this transition document.
For certified companies, we recommend basing planning on this schedule and preparing for the transition. It is particularly advisable to:
- Plan the transition to the new version during the next surveillance or recertification audit. However, ProCert must first obtain accreditation from SAS. Therefore, this can be planned starting in 2027. The audit duration will need to be adjusted accordingly (information forthcoming).
- Conduct a gap analysis against the new version of the standard. We will soon provide you with a comparative document.
- Review and update the relevant management system documentation
- Inform and train the relevant functions. We offer informational webinars on the new ISO 14001:2026.
Further information will follow as soon as the final version of Global ACI is published or SAS issues a specific announcement.
